Writing & Speaking: Use official band descriptors (Task Achievement, Coherence, Vocabulary, Grammar). Many platforms offer AI estimation, but examiner feedback is gold.
Full-Length Tests
- 2h 45min – complete Listening, Reading, Writing (Speaking separate).
- Best for: Monthly progress tracking and endurance training.
- Recommended frequency: 2-3 per month before exam.
Section-Specific Drills
- Listening/Reading only: 40 min per section.
- Writing only: 60 min (Task 1 + Task 2).
- Best for: Isolating weak areas (e.g., multiple choice or map labelling).
Speaking Mock Tests
- Record yourself answering Part 1, 2 & 3 in 11-14 minutes.
- Use AI feedback or peer review for fluency and pronunciation.
- Recommended: 2-3 speaking mocks per week.
Do's of Mock Testing
- ✔ Sit at a desk – no bed, sofa, or distractions.
- ✔ Use headphones for Listening (same type as exam if possible).
- ✔ Time strictly – no pausing, no rewinding.
- ✔ Transfer answers on paper tests (if paper-based).
- ✔ Complete all 40 questions – guess if needed.
Don'ts
- ✘ Skipping sections or taking extra breaks.
- ✘ Listening to music or having background noise.
- ✘ Going over the time limit.
- ✘ Looking at answers before finishing.
- ✘ Comparing with friends during the test.
Step 1: Log Every Mistake
- Create an error log: Question number, type (e.g., T/F/NG, sentence completion), why you got it wrong (time pressure? vocabulary? distraction?).
Step 2: Identify Patterns
- After 3 mocks, review: which question type appears most? Which section costs you the most points (Section 3 Listening? Multiple choice in Reading?).
Step 3: Targeted Drills
- Spend 2-3 days practising only that weak question type using section-specific tests. Then retest with a full mock.
| Week | Monday | Wednesday | Friday | Saturday |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Diagnostic Full Mock | Listening + Reading only | Writing Task 2 only | Error analysis |
| Week 2 | Full Mock (with timer) | Speaking mock (record) | Reading: T/F/NG + Headings | Review weak areas |
| Week 3 | Full Mock + Speaking | Listening Section 3 & 4 focus | Writing Task 1 + Task 2 | Error log review |
| Week 4 | Full Mock (exam conditions) | Full Mock (different set) | Speaking & Writing review | Rest / light review |
🎯 Tip: Always take the Speaking test separately but on the same day as the full mock to simulate fatigue.

Mistake 1: Not Keeping Strict Time
- Fix: Use a countdown timer. Stop exactly at 20 min for Reading passage 1.
Mistake 2: Skipping Analysis
- Fix: Spend equal time reviewing answers as taking the test. Without analysis, you repeat mistakes.
Mistake 3: Ignoring Writing Tasks
- Fix: Always complete both Task 1 and Task 2 in one sitting. Use a timer.
Mistake 4: Never Practising Speaking
- Fix: Record 2 speaking mocks weekly. Listen for hesitations and repetitive grammar.
Mistake 5: Only One Mock
- Fix: Plan 6-8 full mocks before the real exam. More practice = lower anxiety.
