IELTS Exam Day Guide
What to bring, what to expect, how to manage time, and how to stay calm – all in one place.
Night Before
Morning Of
🏢 Arrival & Registration (45-60 min before)
Present your ID and confirmation email. Store belongings in a locker. Phones and smartwatches must be turned off. Listen to the invigilator's instructions carefully.
🎧 Listening Section (30 min + 10 min transfer)
Use the silent time to read ahead. Answer as you listen. For paper test, transfer answers carefully in the final 10 minutes.
📖 Reading Section (60 min)
20 min per passage. Do easy questions first. No extra transfer time – write answers directly on the answer sheet.
✍️ Writing Section (60 min)
Task 2 first (40 min) – it's worth double. Then Task 1 (20 min). Leave 3-5 minutes to proofread both tasks.
🎤 Speaking Test (11-14 min)
Usually scheduled separately (same day or different day). Arrive 30 min early. Warm up your voice. Don't compare answers with other candidates.

Inhale 4 seconds → hold 4 → exhale 4 → hold 4. Repeat 5 times. Lowers cortisol and clears your mind instantly.
🎯 The 10-Second Reset
If panic hits during the test: put down pencil, close your eyes, take 3 deep breaths, whisper "I am prepared." 10 seconds saves 10 minutes of scrambled thinking.
