Two Easy Ways to Talk About the Future

  1. Will + verb (most common for beginners – predictions, decisions, promises)
  2. Be going to + verb (for plans you already decided, or when you have present evidence something will happen)

1. Simple Future with "Will"

Structure: Subject + will + base verb

Positive Sentences (Affirmative)

  • I will call you tomorrow.
  • She will help her mother in the kitchen.
  • We will play football after school.
  • He will buy a new phone next month.
  • They will visit their grandparents on Sunday.
  • It will rain this evening. (prediction)
  • You will like this movie! (promise)

Short form (very common in speaking): I'll, you'll, he'll, she'll, it'll, we'll, they'll

  • I'll see you later.
  • We'll go to the market.

Negative Sentences

Structure: Subject + will not (won't) + base verb

  • I will not eat fast food tomorrow. → I won't eat fast food tomorrow.
  • She won't come to the party.
  • We won't forget your birthday.
  • He won't tell anyone the secret.
  • They won't travel by train.

Questions

Structure: Will + subject + base verb?

  • Will you help me?
  • Will she pass the exam?
  • Will it snow tomorrow?
  • Will they arrive on time?
  • Will he buy a gift?

2. Future with "Be Going To"

Structure: Subject + am/is/are + going to + base verb

Use this for plans you already decided or when you see signs something will happen.

  • I am going to study English tonight. (plan)
  • She is going to cook dinner. (plan)
  • Look at the sky! It is going to rain. (sign)
  • We are going to watch a movie this weekend.
  • They are going to move to a new house.
