Preparing for IELTS Speaking Part 2

Here are Band 8-9 level sample answers for some of the most common Part 2 cue cards reported in 2025. Each answer is timed to last approximately 1.5–2 minutes when spoken naturally. Use them to learn structure, vocabulary, and how to extend ideas.

1. Describe a piece of clothing you enjoy wearing on special occasions.

You should say:

  • What the clothing is
  • How often you wear it
  • What it looks like
  • And explain why you enjoy wearing it

Well, I'd like to talk about a traditional outfit that I really love wearing on special occasions – it's a beautifully embroidered shalwar kameez that my grandmother gave me as a gift a few years ago.

I don't wear it very frequently, probably just three or four times a year, mainly for family weddings, Eid celebrations, or other big cultural events, because it's quite delicate and elaborate.

In terms of appearance, it's a deep crimson red colour with intricate gold thread embroidery covering the front and sleeves. There are delicate floral patterns and tiny mirror work that catches the light beautifully. The fabric is soft silk, and it comes with a matching dupatta that's lightly sequined. It fits me perfectly and always makes me feel very elegant.

The reason I enjoy wearing it so much is that it connects me deeply to my cultural heritage. Every time I put it on, I remember my grandmother's stories about family traditions. On top of that, it always attracts compliments from relatives, which boosts my confidence, and I feel a real sense of belonging at those gatherings. Overall, it's more than just clothing – it's a cherished piece of my family history.

2. Describe a memorable trip you have taken.

You should say:

  • Where you went
  • When and who you went with
  • What you did there
  • And explain why it was memorable

I'd like to talk about an absolutely unforgettable trip I took to Hunza Valley in the northern areas of Pakistan a couple of years ago.

It was in spring, around April, and I went with my immediate family – my parents and two siblings. We drove all the way from Lahore, which itself was quite an adventure because of the winding mountain roads.

While we were there, we stayed in cozy local guesthouses, hiked to viewpoints like Eagle's Nest for breathtaking panoramic views, explored ancient forts such as Altit and Baltit, and spent relaxing evenings by the stunning turquoise Attabad Lake. We also sampled delicious local dishes like apricot cake and walnut-based sweets – the food was incredible!

What made this trip truly memorable was the perfect blend of natural beauty and quality family time. It was a much-needed break from our busy city lives, and watching snow-capped peaks against blooming cherry orchards felt almost magical. Even when it rained one day, it brought us closer as we sat around a bonfire sharing stories. All in all, it refreshed my spirit and reminded me how important it is to explore the hidden treasures of my own country.

3. Describe a person whose job is important to society.

You should say:

  • Who this person is
  • What job they do
  • How you know them
  • And explain why their job is important

I'd like to talk about my aunt, who works as a primary school teacher in a government school in a rural area near Lahore.

I've known her all my life, of course, since she's family, and I've often visited her school and seen her in action with the children.

Her daily work involves teaching basic literacy, maths, and life skills to children aged 6 to 10, many of whom come from underprivileged backgrounds and would otherwise have little access to education.

I believe her job is extremely important to society because teachers like her are literally shaping the future generation. They not only impart knowledge but also instill values, discipline, and confidence in young minds. In areas where opportunities are limited, dedicated teachers can break cycles of poverty by empowering children to dream bigger. Without people like my aunt working tirelessly, often with limited resources, society would lack the educated workforce it needs to progress. She's a true unsung hero in my eyes.

4. Describe an activity you do to stay healthy.

You should say:

  • What the activity is
  • When and where you do it
  • Who you do it with
  • And explain how it helps you stay healthy

One activity I regularly do to keep fit is morning jogging in the local park near my house.

I usually go around 6 a.m., three or four times a week, before starting my day. I prefer early mornings because the air is fresh and the park is peaceful.

Sometimes I go alone with my headphones, listening to podcasts, but quite often I join a couple of friends who live nearby, and we chat while we run.

This activity helps me stay healthy in several ways. Physically, it improves my cardiovascular fitness, helps me maintain a healthy weight, and boosts my energy levels throughout the day. Mentally, it reduces stress and clears my mind, setting a positive tone for the day ahead. Overall, it's become an essential part of my routine that keeps both my body and mind in good shape.
